The Operation and Technology Group (OTG) at Microsoft uses Windows Server 2003 server cluster technology in a typical way, with a few changes that maximize the performance of the hardware. Because OTG selected these configurations (both server and storage) for deployment at Microsoft, they might not meet your specific deployment needs. IT professionals should use the Microsoft implementation as an example when configuring their own Exchange server cluster. As always, careful analysis, planning, testing, and piloting should precede any Exchange deployment and cluster design decisions. Ensure that you apply all applicable best practices and recommendations when making your own design decisions. In addition, ensure that you have properly characterized your environment before server configuration choices are made and hardware is purchased. When properly used and implemented, server cluster technology can create more reliable and available messaging
