Windows Server 2003 iSCSI Cluster Supports

Windows Server 2003 iSCSI Clustering Consulting Services

Windows Server 2003 supports an iSCSI Cluster supports on 2 nodes using SCSIport, Storport and MS Software Initiator. Coincident with Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 (SP1) release the iSCSI support we intend to change the requirements so that 2 nodes are supported under the SCSIport storage stack and 8 nodes under the Storport and MS Software Initiator stacks.  This is crucial in clusters which have more than 2 nodes. SCSIport does not support individual LUN resets, therefore we are limiting SCSIport support to two nodes. Individual LUN reset is very important in scenarios in which you have multi-node clusters in which disk failovers need to happen with as little disruption as possible other disks unaffected by the failover.

Windows Storage Server 2003

IT professionals continue to search for a cost-effective SAN infrastructure that can centralize the management and provisioning of legacy as well as advanced storage devices, while delivering industrial strength storage services to hosts attached to a network-attached storage (NAS) network via a file-based protocol (i.e. CIFS, NFS, AFP) or via hosts attached to a storage area network (SAN) via block-based iSCSI protocol. There is a solution: The  iSCSI Storage Server, for Windows Storage Server 2003 (iSCSI Storage Server), is the first full-featured solution to deliver seamlessly integrated network storage services for Windows Storage Server 2003 including the aggregation and provisioning of iSCSI disk to application hosts over an existing IP network.

iSCSI Storage Server Cluster Service

To optimize system availability and business productivity, the iSCSI Storage Server offers both Mirror and Cluster Services, which enable continuous operation during planned or unplanned outage. The iSCSI Storage Server Mirror Service delivers high availability and fault tolerance by transparently recovering from storage controller, cable or disk failures. And, working seamlessly with Microsoft Cluster Services, the iSCSI Storage Server Cluster Service increases application server availability by eliminating a single point of failure (SPOF) via a dual network connection to the IP network, as well as a dual I/O channel to each storage device.
