During migration, many organizations have a period of
interoperability, or "co-existence," between the server running
Exchange 2003 Server and Novell GroupWise messaging systems.
This is because only small organizations can migrate every user in a
single night. Therefore, prior to most GroupWise migrations,
organizations establish co-existence so that during the period of time
it takes to migrate every user, Exchange Server and GroupWise users can
continue communicating and collaborating with one another, regardless of
which messaging system they are on.
To achieve co-existence and directory synchronization between the two
messaging systems, Exchange 2000 Server includes Microsoft
Exchange Server Connector for Novell GroupWise. In addition,
Exchange 2000 Server Service Pack 1 (SP1) introduced the Calendar
Connector, so that GroupWise and Exchange Server users can schedule
meetings with each other and share calendar information.
During co-existence, Exchange Server users can see GroupWise
distribution lists in the Exchange Server Global Address List (GAL).
When an Exchange Server user sends a message to a GroupWise distribution
list, only one copy of the message is sent over the GroupWise connector.
By activating distribution list expansion, GroupWise is able to deliver
the message to all distribution list members. The following procedure
describes the steps you must take to enable distribution list expansion
on the GroupWise system.
